CANADIANS CELEBRATE “EVERYDAY HEROES” WITH FILM FESTIVAL REACHING TWO MILLION

In Partnership with Earth Day Canada, Onestop Media and Art For Commuters launch 2nd Annual Everyday Heroes Film Festival across Canada

April 15, 2011. Following its debut success in 2010, co-producers of the Everyday Heroes Film Festival (April 15 – 24), Onestop Media Group (Onestop) and Art for Commuters, have partnered up once again with Earth Day Canada to help raise environmental awareness. The festival challenges filmmakers, young and old, established and aspiring to create 60-second silent films and videos that focus on the ways we can all make a difference.

The Everyday Heroes jury has selected fourteen talented and passionate Canadian filmmakers for inclusion in the 2011 festival and are inviting the public to go online to view and vote for their favourites: http://www.everydayheroesfestival.com/. Online voting closes April 24, the last day of the festival. From April 15 – 24, selected films will also be screened to over 2 million viewers daily on Onestop’s digital screens in the Toronto Transit Commission subway system and in Ivanhoe Cambridge Shopping Centres across the country.

“Being a partner on an initiative like the Everyday Heroes Film Festival is extremely gratifying,” said Jed Goldberg, juror and President of Earth Day Canada. “The creativity of the submissions and their ability to convey best practices and ideas for dealing with environmental issues offers yet another important avenue to engage the Canadian public in identifying solutions and the means to act on them.”

“These one-minute gems are filled with home-grown heroes, using hockey-sticks, bicycles and sweaters, finding creative solutions to positively change the ways in which we live in our world,” said Kathleen Mullen, juror and Director of Programming for Planet in Focus: International Environmental Film and Video Festival.

Filmmakers have a chance to win awards in two categories: Conservation and Great Ideas. The prize for best in each category is a Panasonic Full HD HDD/SD Hybrid Camcorder. Plus, the film with the most online votes will win our Viewer's Choice Award, and an Apple 13" MacBook Pro Laptop Computer. Prizes sponsored by Aeroplan.
